colour

Deep purple/black with a bright red rim.

aroma

Lifted fruit aromas of fresh mulberry and maraschino cherry intertwined with aromas of green peppercorn and floral notes. Whole bunches and stalk inclusion during fermentation has added lovely peppery and savoury aromatics and textural complexity.

palate

Redbrook Shiraz is a style rare to Margaret River. Medium-bodied with the palate showing remarkable drive and length of flavour with layers of texture and the capacity for longevity in the cellar. This is a wine that will continue to develop and evolve in the bottle over time. Vibrancy and the purity of fruit is at the forefront of the style.

cellaring

Will cellar for at least 10 years from vintage.

vintage

The 2013 vintage in Margaret River was the 7th consecutive vintage the region has experienced that has been rated excellent to exceptional – a testament to the suitability of the region to the growing of world class table wines.

The fruit for the Redbrook Shiraz is grown on three unique vineyards located in central and southern parts of Margaret River. These vineyards show near perfect vine balance which in turn produce low crop levels and small berry size with vibrant aromatics and intense flavour in the end wine.

winemaking

All fruit was picked in the cool of the early morning with a select parcel being handpicked for the inclusion of whole clusters in the ferment. Once at the winery, the must was held at 5⁰C for four days before the slow commencement of fermentation. Fermentation was then conducted over ten days with the juice being passed through the cap of skins every few hours for the gentle extraction of colour and tannin. After gentle pressing, the wine matured for 1214 months in a combination of new (20%) and older French oak barriques (225L), hogsheads (300L) and puncheons (500L). Following maturation, each individual barrel was tasted and assessed to determine which barrels were included in the final blend. The wine was then carefully bottled without fining, followed by extended maturation in bottle prior to release.

huon hooke, the real review 2019

Deep, youthful red/purple colour. The bouquet is mellow and has a slight creosote note from oak. The wine is dry and savoury, full-bodied and lavishly flavoured: a big, generous, rounded wine with softness and fleshy texture. There are blackberry flavours which remind of cabernet - but this is possibly just Margaret River regional character. A very smart wine, ageing gracefully.

ray jordan, the west australian wine guide 2018

Such concentrated Shiraz fruit in here. Deep plum and traces of blackcurrant with ripe prune tones. A deeply concentrated and powerful wine with coffee grinds and dark chocolate, black fruits and a savoury gamey character. This has the structure and fruit to handle extended cellaring. Cellar: 20 years.

Plenty of sweet tobacco and bay leaf aromas to the dark berries here. Medium to full body, loose tannins and a tangy finish.
