Brilliant condition. Fresh green, light gold in colour.

A layered, complex wine with stonefruit, pear and citrus notes and seductive fresh toast, dried herbs and toasted spice aromas from wild fermentation on solids in new French oak barrels.

The palate shows remarkable fruit sweetness, intensity and persistence typically found in Chardonnay wines grown in the Karridale area. This fruit intensity is matched with lovely texture and savoury elements from the time spent maturing on yeast lees and solids fermentation in the 45% new French oak puncheons (500L) - all balanced with fresh acidity.

A very distinct 2016 vintage. The dry, warm spring and summer meant it was tracking early but a tropical rain event in January saw 50–70mm fall across the region which pushed back harvest dates slightly.

Chardonnay, is yet again the pick of the white varieties, with extraordinary flavour depth and length. Following Easter, in late March, the tail-end of a weak tropical system moved through which saw approximately 12mm of rain to the south-east.

A wine made from a single Block from our Karridale vineyard. The Karridale area within the Margaret River wine growing region is south of the township itself and produces distinctly powerful Chardonnay wines that have tremendous fruit weight from front to back palate. The location of our Karridale Chardonnay vineyard being away from the coastline, accentuates this “coolness” to produce this distinctly styled wine. The Block was selectively hand picked with the fruit then being cooled to 8 degrees before being whole bunch pressed. The fruit was then gently squeezed and the cool, turbid juice went directly into French oak barrels for wild fermentation. Following wild fermentation, each barrel was stirred and topped fortnightly for 9 months before individual barrels were selected for inclusion into the final blend. The blend then spent a further 7 months on yeast lees to achieve the desired texture before being bottled under screw cap.

Lobster, shrimp or crab in pasta cream sauces

James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2017

Seamless and refined. This is a far more elegant display than is the norm for this label. It's bright and complex with plenty of grapefruit, citrus, pear and apple flavour, a splash of tinned tropical fruits blooming on the finish. Oak and fruit sit hand-in-glove and the lengthy, refreshing trail of fruit flavour extending out through the finish is impressive
