The palate shows remarkable fruit sweetness, intensity and persistence typically found in Chardonnay wines grown in the Karridale area. This fruit intensity is matched with lovely texture and savoury elements from the time spent maturing on yeast lees in 45% new French oak puncheons, all balanced with fresh acidity.

A very distinct 2016 vintage. The dry, warm spring and summer meant it was tracking early but a tropical rain event in January saw 50–70mm fall across the region which pushed back harvest dates. Chardonnay, was yet again the pick of the white varieties, with extraordinary flavour depth and length.
Broadway refers to the name given by our winemakers to the popular stretch of Caves Road along which our Chardonnay vineyards are dotted. These strategic locations capture the array of northern, southern and central flavours and characters of Chardonnay to make a style that represents the essence of this variety in Margaret River.
Each individual site was picked at optimum flavour ripeness and acid levels between late February and early March. The cold fruit was whole bunch pressed, with only the first 'free-run' juice used to create the wine. This gentle handling of the cold grapes and juice is critical to producing our unique style of Chardonnay.
30% of the wine was selected to undergo wild fermentation in French oak barrels, with the balance fermented in tank. All batches remained on their lees with regular stirring for 10 months. Select parcels from each individual vineyard block were then blended, with the final blend stabalised and filtered only once prior to bottling.

Oh boy, this is clever winemaking: 30% wild-fermented in French oak (48% new), the balance fermented in tank, all kept on yeast lees for 10 months. Seamless and refined. This is a far more elegant display than is the norm for this label. It's bright and complex with plenty of grapefruit, citrus, pear and apple flavour, a splash of tinned tropical fruits blooming on the finish. Oak and fruit sit hand-in-glove and the lengthy, refreshing trail of fruit flavour extending out through the finish is impressive.95
