2 Trophies and 4 Gold Medals at the Royal Hobart Wine Show

Continuing an incredible run of awards within the wine show circuit this year, Evans & Tate has been awarded 2 Trophies and 4 Gold Medals at the Royal Hobart Wine Show. This brings the tally to 13 Trophies and 24 Gold Medals for Evans & Tate wines for 2023 so far.

This year, the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania (RAST) celebrated 50 years of the Royal Hobart Wine Show – the second biggest wine competition in the country, highlighting the significance of being awarded a Trophy or Gold Medal.

We are thrilled that the 2022 Single Vineyard Malbec was awarded a Trophy for Best Varietal or Blended Red Table Wine. 2022 was an exceptional vintage in Margaret River and pristine Malbec fruit was sourced from the family-run Carter Road Vineyard in the heart of Wilyabrup, producing a wine that is intense yet delicate. The palate is juicy, with bright red fruits and a lovely savoury spice. This is a stunning wine showcasing the bright future of single varietal Malbec in Margaret River. Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne said:

“Special plots of Malbec vines are few and far between in Margaret River and we at E&T believe we have one of the best in our Carter Road Vineyard, Wilyabrup. As with all our Single Vineyard wines they are only made in the great vintage years, when they exude the personality that only that particular site can produce. An eye watering small amount was made from the exceptional 2022 vintage after a one-year hiatus (2021 was too cool for Malbec) and the sheer charm of this wine was recognised by Chair of Judges Jeremy Dineen and his team of 17 Judges at the Royal Hobart Wine Show and subsequently awarded the Trophy for Best Varietal / Blended Dry Red Wine!”

The 2021 Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay was also awarded The Cliff Heard Perpetual Trophy for the Best Chardonnay Dry White. Although this wine is not yet released, you are able to shop the 2019 vintage here and the 2020 pre-release here. This is an incredible result, with Redbrook Chardonnay having won the Best Chardonnay Trophies at all 4 major wine shows this year.
