Decanter 'Best in Show' Award for 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet

Decanter 'Best in Show' Award for 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet

We are absolutely ecstatic to announce that the Evans & Tate 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded a prestigious ‘Best in Show’ medal at the world’s most recognised wine show, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2023.

This Cabernet was awarded 97 points – the highest score given at this year’s show, and was one of only three Cabernet Sauvignons to be awarded ‘Best in Show’, solidifying this award-winning wine as one of the best Cabernets in the world.

On this exceptional win, Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne said:

“Humbled and proud is what our small team at 'E&T' felt when we learnt that our 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon had been awarded Best in Show out of 18,250 wines at the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards – the world’s largest and most influential wine competition no less.

"Our Redbrook Vineyard in the heart of the Wilyabrup area in Margaret River has consistently grown special Cabernet Sauvignon since the 1970’s, so when the extraordinary 2018 vintage came along, we knew we had the potential to elevate this wine into the stratosphere – which the judges at the DWWA also recognised!

"If I could choose any place in the world to grow Cabernet Sauvignon it would be on this small plot of land at Redbrook in Wilyabrup…hands down.”

The DWWA was launched in 2004 which makes this the 20th year of the world’s largest and most influential global wine competition. The 2023 competition saw 18,250 wines from 57 countries tasted by 236 of the world’s most trusted wine experts, including 53 Masters of Wine. Only 50 wines were awarded Best in Show, which makes the 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon one of the top 50 wines in the world.

Alongside this impressive score, show judges also provided the following tasting note: "...made after the warm, Indian-summer vintage of 2018, considered exceptional for Cabernet... The summer warmth is very much apparent in the wine’s aromas, though: a broad, structured upland of currant, plum, black cherry and bramble fruit with just a little menthol to bring freshness and dimension. On the palate, the wine is acid-balanced and smooth, once again throwing a spotlight on to those long, complex fruits. It’s amply accessible already, though its fruit qualities will certainly hold for some years yet."

We are very pleased to be releasing this ‘Best in Show’ Cabernet on the back of this result.

Margaret River is regarded as one of the world’s most exceptional wine producing regions and at its heart is the Redbrook vineyard in Wilyabrup, a 20-hectare parcel of land home to some of the region’s oldest producing vines. As Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne says, “The vines on our Redbrook Vineyard have a remarkable natural balance in terms of vegetative and fruit loads with the end result being wines that are perfumed, elegant but with enduring flavour, and a hallmark silky tannin that is effortlessly woven into the heart of the wine.”

We anticipate this wine to sell out following this 'Best in Show' award, so be sure to secure your allocation now.

5x Gold Medals

"Matured for 15 months in French oak (22% new). Potently intense fruit here – the wine enters the mouth with fanfare and pomp; the fruit that gathers there is riddled with cassis, raspberry leaf, black tea, pepper, exotic spice and more. Classical cabernet from Margaret River, from a great vintage. Exactly what we have come to expect from the Redbrook Reserve range."

– 96 Points, Halliday Wine Companion 2023

"From the wonderful 2018 vintage, which continues to amaze with its red wines in particular. This is a cracking wine. Leafy black fruits on the nose with a trace of brick dust and bay leaf, black olive. The palate is smooth and seamlessly structured with fine minerally tannins. A super wine with years ahead of it."

– 96 Points, Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2023

"The 2018 vintage was lush and excellent, and this 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an accurate barometer of what we can expect from both the region and the season. It features abundant fruit wrapped in velvety tannins. This is age-worthy and slowly evolving and hasn't yet approached its first stage of development—it is still ascending."

– 95 Points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2022
