2019 Redbrook Estate Shiraz Awarded Max Schubert Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine of Show
We are in celebration mode here at Evans & Tate with the news that our 2019 Redbrook Estate Shiraz has been awarded the highly coveted Max Schubert Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine of Show at the most prestigious wine show in the country today – the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
The 2019 Redbrook Estate Shiraz also won two other Trophies for Best Shiraz of Show and Best Shiraz 2020 Vintage or Older, bringing the total tally to an incredible three Trophies!
On this incredible result, Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne said:
"We are simply humbled for our tiny parcel of Redbrook Shiraz to be recognised by the team of judges at this year’s Royal Adelaide Wine Show. Especially when you consider the extraordinary lineup of Shiraz wines from across Australia that were entered and judged at this year’s show.
"This result supports our belief that world class examples of Shiraz / Syrah can be grown in Margaret River – even if vineyards of this pedigree are few and far between. So, when a vintage such as 2019 aligns with old vines in such a location, it produces a super charismatic wine with sublime longevity – something that the judging team recognised out of the 2,500+ wines tasted this week!
"For this wine to also be recognised as the Most Outstanding Red Wine of Show and awarded the prestigious Max Schubert Trophy is something the team and I are very proud to have achieved."
The Royal Adelaide Wine Show is the most prestigious wine show in Australia, featuring over 2,500 wines from over 300 wineries across the country. Wines are judged by a panel of esteemed judges from across Australia over four days, to determine medal and trophy winners.
“We had more than 2,300 wines this year, and our judges have been impressed by the quality and variety of wines in this year’s entries,” said Greg Follet, Chairman of the Wine Committee and past Max Schubert Trophy recipient.
“Evans & Tate have had a great couple of years winning big awards for their Chardonnays and Cabernet, and winning one of the country’s leading red wines is another feather in their cap.”
For a Margaret River Shiraz to come out on top at this South Australian wine show is a feat not lost on us. South Australia is home to some of the most highly awarded Shiraz wines in the country, and in fact, the Max Schubert Trophy honours Max Schubert, Penfold Wines Chief Winemaker (1948 – 1975). Alongside the Jimmy Watson Trophy (Royal Melbourne Wine Show), the Max Schubert Trophy is one of the most well-known and highly regarded wine awards in the country.
Today's result is a huge achievement in itself and adds to an already exceptional tally of awards this year, with 17 trophies and over 30 gold medals awarded to Evans & Tate wines across national and international wine shows.
Seven of our wines were also awarded Gold Medals and 95 Points:
• Evans & Tate 2019 Redbrook Estate Shiraz
• Evans & Tate 2021 Redbrook Estate Chardonnay (Vertical Pack)
• Evans & Tate 2021 Single Vineyard ‘Ellens Ridge Vineyard’ Chardonnay
• Evans & Tate 2020 Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay (Pre-Release)
• Evans & Tate 2020 Redbrook Estate Chardonnay (Vertical Pack)
• Evans & Tate 2022 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (not yet released)
• Evans & Tate 2021 Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot (not yet released)
A huge congratulations to Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne, Winemaker Feleasha Prendergast and the winemaking and viticultural teams on these exceptional results.
