3 Trophies & Wine of Show at Sydney Royal Wine Show 2023
We are ecstatic to announce that our 2021 Redbrook Estate Chardonnay was awarded three trophies and crowned Wine of Show at the Sydney Royal Wine Show 2023 last night.
The three trophies awarded were The Tucker Seabrook Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show, The Albert Chan Memorial Prize for Best White, and The AP John Coopers Perennial Trophy for Best Chardonnay. The Tucker Seabrook Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show and The Albert Chan Memorial Prize for Best White are two of the show's three major trophies. Alongside the Jimmy Watson Trophy (Royal Melbourne Wine Show) these are two of the most highly coveted and regarded wine awards in the country.
Sydney Royal Chair of Judges comments on Australian Chardonnay
Sydney Royal Chair of Judges, Sarah Crowe said: “Australian wine connoisseurs are winners here. The 2023 Sydney Royal Wine Show has demonstrated that not only are Australian producers delivering incredible wines, but they are doing so at reasonable price points for consumers.
“This year’s Best Wine of Show is a fantastic example of this, Australian Chardonnays are at the top of their game and the Evans & Tate Redbrook Estate Chardonnay is delivering the highest quality at an accessible price for this level of wine.”
With over 222 Chardonnay wines submitted from across Australia, this Trophy is recognition yet again of the power and excellence of Margaret River, and Evans & Tate Chardonnay.
Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne Reflects on this epic win
The Sydney Royal Wine Show is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country and this is an incredible result for Evans & Tate and the Redbrook range of wines. Reflecting on this win, Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne said:
"The Margaret River region is consistently producing world class Chardonnay wines. The results and reviews over the years for Margaret River Chardonnay, from not only the Sydney Royal Wine Show but other prestigious shows (both domestically and on the international stage), shows an exciting and accelerating trend for the quality of these wines coming out of the region.
"Sincere thanks to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW in recognising Evans & Tate, not only in this year’s Show, but over many years. These awards are integral in Evans & Tate achieving its wine quality goals; we continually benchmark our wines against the award-winning wines that come to the fore each year at the Sydney Royal Wine Show and these wines provide the inspiration and drive for our team here in Margaret River year-in-year-out to simply make better and better wine. Of course, a huge thanks to Sarah Crowe and her team of talented judges.
"It would have been very difficult for Sarah Crowe and her talented team of judges to try and pick out the winning wine as the top wines are an extraordinary showcase of Australian winemaking. So, for our Redbrook Chardonnay to not only be in that mix but to end up on top makes it a very proud moment for team E&T! We knew we had something extra special not only when we picked this fruit in Feb 2021 but also when we bottled it almost two years later. The cooler 2021 vintage in Margaret River drew similarities to that of 2019 and 2017 and the learnings from these prior vintages allowed us to hone in on what worked and what we would have done differently if we had that time again. This really took our 2021 Redbrook Chardonnay to the next level.
"Viva Evans & Tate! Viva Margaret River! Viva Chardonnay!"
