Introducing the Single Vineyard Range

Evans & Tate wine has been made from Margaret River fruit since 1974 and Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne has been at the helm of this highly acclaimed winery for over two decades. Matt has been making wine in Margaret River since 1993 and his extensive knowledge of the region, and Evans & Tate wines, has been paramount in shaping the winery into what it is today – one of the pioneering Margaret River wineries, with some of the best-selling wines from the region.
In 2018 Matt was inspired by what he viewed as the greatest vintage he has ever experienced in Margaret River. He said this vintage "produced wines of the highest quality". Matt decided to showcase some of the best single vineyard blocks across Margaret River, producing the first vintage of an exquisite new range of wines – the Evans & Tate Single Vineyard range. Matt’s approach to this range is to “allow vineyard character to sing” and his winemaking ethos reflects this by taking a minimalistic, hands-off winemaking approach to present fruit, and therefore vineyard and varietal character, at the forefront of each wine.
The first three wines in the Single Vineyard range were released in 2021 and have already accumulated 2 Trophies, 10 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals across a number of wine shows, as well as featuring in the esteemed Halliday Wine Companion 2022.
We are incredibly pleased to introduce the most recent addition to the Single Vineyard range, the Evans & Tate 2020 Single Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet. For this blend, Matt selected Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from only a handful of old vines in existence, planted in 1975 on the Evans & Tate Redbrook Vineyard in the Wilyabrup area of Margaret River.
Read on for Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne’s description of the current limited release wines in the Single Vineyard range.
Evans & Tate 2020 Single Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet
73% Shiraz from Block 13 or the “Caves Road Block”
27% Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 1 or the “Cottage Block”
The Shiraz and Cabernet were sourced from separate blocks on the Redbrook Vineyard, which is located on the western most end of Metricup Road. Matt said, "This is a rarely seen wine style out of Margaret River of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the oldest vines in the region on the Redbrook Vineyard.”
The old Shiraz vines drive the style with great richness and length of flavour, coupled with fragrance and spice. The Cabernet Sauvignon component contributes a layer of structure and texture, perfectly integrated to produce this rare and memorable blend.
Matt’s personal favourite food pairing for this unique blend is a kangaroo burger with apple and fennel slaw.

Evans & Tate 2018 Single Vineyard Chardonnay
100% Chardonnay (Gin Gin clone) from “Block 9” in the Bridgelands Vineyard
Bridgelands Vineyard is located in the north-eastern part of the Karridale subregion. This location experiences cooler night temperatures during the ripening season, which produces more powerful Chardonnay wines with higher acidity.
The 2018 vintage produced Chardonnay with great natural acidity, and this Single Vineyard wine is perfectly balanced to reflect this. With lifted aromas of stone fruit, melon and pears, there is also seductive toast from barrel ageing. The palate is a burst of flavour with apricots and apples giving way to a rich mouthfeel from time spent on lees and an underlying creaminess from malolactic fermentation.

Evans & Tate 2019 Single Vineyard Malbec
100% Malbec
Fruit was sourced from a small block on the family-run Carter Road Vineyard in the heart of Wilyabrup, north of Margaret River.
This single vineyard and single varietal wine gives a beautiful and unique expression of Malbec from Margaret River. This wine has lifted aromas of violets and black plums, with a smoky earthiness giving complexity. The palate is rich and ripe, with silky tannins and juicy acidity. Matt calls this wine “a world-class example of this rarely seen straight varietal” from Margaret River.

52% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc
Each parcel of fruit for this wine was sourced from the Wildberry Springs Estate Vineyard, located in the north-eastern part of Wilyabrup, right in the heart of Margaret River.
The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon drive this medium-bodied wine, with a touch of Malbec and Cabernet Franc ensuring balance and silky integration on the palate, whilst giving a touch of aromatic lift and complexity. Bursting with redcurrants and cassis, there are also savoury notes of herbs and cedar.
