Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot Listed in the Top 24 Wines of the World at the IWSC 2023

We are ecstatic to announce that our 2020 Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot was 1 of just 24 wines awarded a Trophy at the International Wine & Spirits Challenge (IWSC) in London today. This result firmly places this Margaret River wine as 1 of the top 24 wines in the world.

On this incredible result, Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne said:

"Varietal Cabernet wines from Margaret River have gained international acclaim in a relatively short period of time. For the IWSC judges to recognise and award a Trophy to our Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot, supports our belief that the Cabernet blends are right up there with the pure Cabernet wines of the region. These blends are an exciting secret in Margaret River – wine lovers are only just starting to uncover these world-class wines. It is particularly rewarding to wave the flag for Margaret River on the global stage that has the respect and recognition of the IWSC."

The IWSC judges awarded this wine 95 points and said:

"A wine of pedigree with a palate that is beautifully balanced with notes of dark fruits, red berries, pencil shavings, and herbs. Beads of refreshing acidity run through to the powerful finish, demonstrating the skill with which it has been crafted. A sophisticated and age-worthy example."

We are offering our members an exclusive, limited pre-release of this internationally acclaimed wine. With just 50 6-packs available to purchase, secure your allocation of this wine here. Please note this wine can only be purchased in multiples of 6.

For the first time in the history of the IWSC, international and local judges travelled to Margaret River for an ‘in situ’ tasting process. Master of Wine Alistair Cooper oversaw the judging panels, which included international and local experts.

Following the tasting, the judges spoke highly of the quality of the wines tasted, noting that the bar had been raised very high with over 250 wines submitted into this year's international challenge. The judges commented that they were "very impressed by the quality of Margaret River wines which showed complexity and represented a variety of styles while maintaining a distinctive regional character."

We also received a Gold Medal for the Evans & Tate 2019 Redbrook Reserve ChardonnayThis wine has already won a Trophy for Best Chardonnay at the Royal Hobart Wine Show in 2021 as well as 9 Gold Medals in the Australian wine show circuit. With 95 points in the Halliday Wine Companion 2023, West Australian wine writer Ray Jordan also awarded the 2019 Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay 96 points and wrote:

"Oh wow. There is almost a pretty delicacy about this excellent Chardonnay at first then the awesome power kicks in and starts its relentless drive to that super long finish. Has a crunchy juicy mid palate with fine chalky acidity and a fine citrus tang balancing the complex savoury notes. Finishes dry and long."

Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne believes this is one of Margaret River's most premium Chardonnay offerings. He said: "It will very slowly develop more subtle complexities and character for years to come while ensuring fruit and hence regional character is the focal point of the Redbrook Reserve style." The palate is seamless, refreshing and tight with ever-lingering flavour that is a highlight of a great 2019 Margaret River vintage.
